Discover Is at “it” Again

Discover is at

We are smitten with “Discover Freeze it” not only because it is a useful and welcomed credit card feature providing an enhanced sense of card security – easy, quick and controllable by cardholder – but also because the marketing and advertising is just so well done.

As the best advertising does, the promotion tells a story that we can truly identify with (who hasn’t left a card behind at a restaurant or merchant?), and it goes on to solve the lost/missing card problem in a credible and engaging way. It also underscores just how easy and instant it is to freeze and unfreeze your own credit card to prevent fraud.

And in true Discover fashion, the brand has now just introduced another “it” branded card enhancement: “Double it,” which is designed to attract new Discover it cardholders by amplifying first year rewards.

Discover doubles rewards for new cardmembers

As described by Ryan Scully, vice president of marketing, in a Discover press release earlier this month, “This is a great way for new cardmembers to test drive Discover and experience the generous rewards and industry-recognized customer service. These new cardmembers will also enjoy more-recent enhancements available to all of our customers.”

The way it works: consumers who apply for a new Discover card between June 1 and July 31 can earn double the usual cash-back rate for the entire first year of card membership.  Discover it, Discover it Chrome and Discover it for Students are all eligible for the double cash promotion. There are no limits on earn, and the earn never expires.
